I, too, continuously compile a list of parking spots, and I share lists with a couple of my fellow company drivers. I drive a regional dedicated route covering a seven state area (TX, OK, KS, MO, AR, MS, LA), and after a year of doing it I have a pretty comprehensive collection of places I know I can park for a 10. And none of them are truck stops, which means if I’m finishing earlier in the day I have all of those as options, too.

Now that is a real gentlemen. I used to do the same. The information is valuable, not a day didn't go by when I would get a call, or place a call to someone in our fleet about "know of any good places to camp out in..."

    He is right.

Yeah, people do it all the time. But, there is that one time where some drunk plowed into you and it becomes your fault as you shouldn't have been there in the first place. That will take everything from you.

Yuck it up while luck is in your favor.

There is a difference between parking on an off ramp and on ramp. I would never park on an off ramp.... If some ####### plows into the back of u on an onramp , he is just a special kind of stupid

It’s a tradeoff though if you use ramps as a last resort.

If you don’t stop on the ramp when nothing else is available, are you more likely to loose everything because you either fell asleep behind the wheel or got in a wreck while you were out of hours?

Tough call, but I’d choose the chance of getting hit on a ramp than the consequences of getting in a wreck with a HOS violation.

When I mean I use ramps as a last resort I mean it. In my 5 years of driving, I have done a 10 on a ramp less than a dozen times.

He may be right that its unsafe but he is not right about trip planning.... And that is something he will learn doing reefer and being held up for an ungodly amount of hours at a customer and have to find parking... trip planning sounds good in theory but there is times when nothing works to plan and that is when u have to improvise
