There are many reasons why homeless people are where they are. Not all reasons are bad or looked down on, but I would have to say most of them are homeless because lack of ambition. All the walking they do to find food and money and trying to stay warm is enough of an ability on its own to find a job. I know it would be difficult to get a job when your all dirty and have no address...but there are churches and homeless shelters, the people there care for a living, and I am sure most would be more then happy to help the willing. Mc Donalds is a start or it could be permanent, you can live off the wages, you just need to be smart with your money, know the difference between necessities and luxuries...whats needed and whats not. I don't believe the government should be responsible for them, if people want to help and can "afford" to help then good for them. When you take money out of my hard earned check and feed someone homeless or on welfare, it really erks me, I to at one time, had to take care of my family and I did so the only way I knew how, when I got out of the military, I had some funds but not nearly enough to live off of, I at one time had 3 jobs....2 were during the day (greenhouse worker and personal care assistant) and 1 was 3 hours a night delivering papers in my car, the paper route alone was a $1000.00 extra a month. During the summer I picked up a seasonal job that got me more experience and more money which created allowed time to find something more permanent that offered benefits for my family and I. Ambition and sacrificing the wants for the necessities can be accomplished quite easily. I know of many people who inspire me everyday because they have major disabilities but they refuse to give up and call it quits; they hold steady jobs, drive nice cars and own their own house and depend on no one.

I do agree though that the fence needs to be put up on the border whether its virtual or not....the virtual one that is up now is doing wonders catching drug smugglers and illegals. The cam is operated by American border patrol made up of volunteers. If we are gonna start protecting our borders we need to get the 3 border patrol agents that were recently put in jail on 2 separate accounts, ask them to continue working for our country, give them their badges back, let them know they did good, give their guns back, send them back out and let them protect us.

 

I do not know the statistical breakdown of the homeless numbers however I think a vast majority of them are people who several years ago would have been in state run menatl facilities, but they were closed. Having worked in the industry I know many of these patients were released into the community under different levels of supervision and almost all of them have fallen thru the cracks of society, MOST of them need care that they no longer can get.
