Why is Kenworth using Paccar if their reputation is so bad?

I love my PACCAR. Just turned a million k on it this year with only 1 injector problem. I have to laugh when people complain about the emmisions on PACCAR and say to get Cummins instead. Well for less informed people from the exhaust manifold back that is all Cummins. Can be brought to any shop that does Cummins warranty but the problem there is that the ECM is PACCAR and only Davie can read it and PACCAR guards that thing like fort Knox.

Hey BD, really wanting to know, how has it been on sensors and any issues with the DEF system, I am leaning VERY hard in the direction of the 680 MX/11 and 12 sp Endurance auto, I am just sooo leery of DEF problems, that is the main reason I have held unto my 2010 pre DEF trucks so long, also, do you have much idle time on it??? Thx!

    Dave_in_AZ Thanks this.

I bought a t680 with the mx13 in November of 2015 and it's been running flawlessly. 250k miles.

Cummins and PACCAR use the exact same Holset aftertreatment difference.. outside of computer module programming, the only physical difference in components between a truck with a Cummins and a truck with a PACCAR is the type of electrical connection on the seventh injector and the location of it... 2015 and up, PACCAR mounted theirs on the back pressure valve, which wasn't the best place to put it.

Mx11 hasnt had much time out in the field yet. Shares some similarites with the 13 but is mostly a new design. I think we sold our first one to a rollback company. Hopefully can get some real world experience soon.
12sp seems to drive good. The new shifter is interesting but easy to get used to. We have a fleet with them out for a month or so now. Also mostly new design as well. Electic over air for the shifting. Basically a 3sp with a range and splitter.

spsauerland and KANSAS TRANSIT Thank this.

    MX13 is pushrod engine.

Thx for the heads up, I just dont need any more 13 litre trucks we max out at 54000 gross and had our best luck/mileage with the ISM Cummins, (of course you can't get them anymore) the 12 sp is also VERY light, between it and the MX11 I can cut almost 1500# off what I have now.

I didn't read through the whole thread, but I would imagine it is because they have been losing market share due to only having the cummins available. Many OO's here have given u their loyalty to KW and gone with a freight shaker or a star the last couple of years to give the detroit a try, some have taken it in the shorts and gone back to KW and Pets, others have just run the isx 300,000 or so and swapped in a cat, problem solved.
