I'm a newbie looking to earn my CDL and get (2) years of experience under my belt. YRC offers a driver training program where they will train you to get your CDL and then give you a job where you have to commit to a year or pay your tuition back.
I don't see anything wrong with this path for a newbie to get his (2) years of experience and then move on to greener pasture. Personally I want to move into tankers after I get my two years because I know most tanker drivers are making 80-100k as company drivers.
What's wrong with using YRC as a springboard in this way?

YRC linehaul drivers make 70k-80k+ plus. It’s just the freeze on top out pay it’s low for the LTL Industry. Trucking in general it’s a top paying job. For a new driver it’s a great opportunity then going to a mega carrier. Also you get experience in the LTL Industry which if you decide to leave places like ABF, OLD D, Saia, Estes, FedEx freight, UPS Freight will hire you quickly.

You might also find that you won't be far from those 80-100k tanker jobs after a few years at YRC.
I pulled tanks for a few years when I started driving and thought I was there to stay. I later found out that if you want more money and easy work, it's not necessarily all about the kind of trailer you're pulling.Dan.S Thanks this. -
Do it. It’s a great start, beats the heck out of any mega carrier CDL program. I started driving with the YRC training program. Made about 80k my first year with them. But I was on sleeper runs gone 4-6 days a week. I’ve moved on but I’ve actually thought about going back a lot until I found my current job.

Mostly mileage. Team run doing 6k miles a week. There’s plenty of clock time to be had too. Shop, waiting for loads, break down, chaining up.
The actual CDL training is what it says. All the instructors do is give you what you need to pass to get your license. Once you get that you get with a YRC trainer and that’s where you get your actual driving down.
I’m not saying YRC is the best or worst but its pretty high up there for your first driving job.

I was out of the Chicagoland area so I cannot comment on the runs out of Denver. I used to run there a lot from Chicago and the dispatchers are all super laid back. You will probably start off on call and either do turns or layovers. I don’t think they run sleeper teams out of Denver.
