looking at a truck with a 1999 model ISM engine. I don't believe it is an EGR motor but not sure. I have not personally looked at the truck so I'm not sure. Just wondering if these motors have any good or bad reputations. Truck is flawless from my understanding and the pics look great. Just trying to get an idea
Any info on a 1999 Cummins ISM motor?

Are you talking ISX or ISM? I drove a 2000 500 ISX for about a year that had a little over 300k I think when I got it, and nothing ever went wrong with it when I had it. I did have to stop at Cummins once and they reset the speed at 75, but that was it. I don't think the driver that got it new had any trouble with it either.

Not an EGR in 1999. The M11 became the ISM in 1998 with they changed all the electronics and fuel system. Not a bad engine, just a small one, popular in RV's, busses and light tractors.

The truck is a 2000 FLD120 with a ISM motor. Just wondering how well they hold up and so-on. Don't plan on working the truck too hard, and seems geared well with the 10spd and 3.90 rears. it is basically the exact same truck as my old 99 except it had a 12.7 in it. Picking it up for super cheap and it's rust free and spotless.

If you don't plan on doing a lot of 80,000lbs gross hauls then it should last. They had issues with head bolts when you run a lot of max load runs over mountains. The fuel economy is better on the older ones vs the newer ones due to emissions regulations. I wouldn't be afraid of it.

I did a three man rotation with a 99 century ism running mail we put a million miles on it in 3 years .. With light loads it was decent but struggled when we got the 99,000 lb chicken loads .. Jakes are weak even empty but lifetime fuel mileage was 8.5 U.S. Mpg on paper
