Any Truckstop Employees post here?

Awhile back, I made some inquiries at several Flying J's about what will happen with the employees at the Country Market restuarant when it goes to being a Denny's (when Pilot takes over) and I was told that the employees will be offered jobs at the Dennys.

I later found, which pissed me off, this was not the case. Hardly any Country Market employees were kept on when Denny's arrived at any location. With some rare exceptions, the Country Market staff I dealt with very nice, efficient and should have kept their jobs.

I ... WAS ... fiercely loyal to Country Market restuarants.

 

Oops, could be. Do you remember what exit that one was on that may have closed?

Flying J had the "Country Market" brand of restuarants before the merger with Pilot. Yes, some of them did not convert for various reasons. Glad to hear that some retained the buffet option.

 

Really? It's not like we volunteer this information. We are asked by drivers how do I get there? I will tell a driver the best way, if I know it, but if I don't I will offer a map or the phone book, which has maps and help them find the location. It's kind of unfair to expect us to know every place you need to go. We live here and don't travel all over the place, like you guys do. I do agree, if someone doesn't know, they shouldn't even try. I would hate to send someone the wrong way, because for you guys time is money and I totally understand that. But then we get the real old guys that ask questions and we explain and explain and they will go to another cashier to double check and to yet another person and triple check and I am thinking wth maybe it's time to retire, if you can't figure out where the heck you are supposed to go. Maps and gps's are supposed to be helpful tools. Relying on truck stop employees is not the best way to go. Just saying..........

 

You have no idea of the headaches involved when a driver takes a truck into a bad area where he cant get out or will get a ticket. Low bridges etc can cause problems. He is double-checking because most non-truckers dont give these problems a thought when they give directions...

 

You are absolutely right about the problems. I was on the road with my ex for a year and we ended up in some bad areas once or twice. So I totally get were you are coming from. The area I live in doesn't have many overpasses and I am aware of the requirements. All I am saying is Truck stop employees are amateurs, where you guys are the pro's. I believe there are GPS systems made especially for Trucks. I don't think the average Truck stop employee knows you bridge clearance is what? 13 feet or so. I am just saying most cashiers and whatever come out of "civilian" life and never experienced a Truckers life. I was just asking for a little understanding on your part. We try to do our best to help you all.

 

Yes, we appreciate the work you do very much. I dont know how you guys tolerate that business...

 

Yeah, the Sheets and Wawa's would be a nice alternative.

 

Sheetz does have two that are truck stops. One in Mt. Jackson, VA and one in Dubois, PA. They say that they are test stores. How long does it take to test them? Both have been around over five years.
