debate! debate! we have debate and opinions galore! i am thinking the intentions of truckers report are inclusive of at least the two and then some. I like.

and then there are the factual entries that even a crusty ol'driver like myself learn from. Thanks navigatorwife. helps even the know-it-all newbies fresh out of school too.well at least to the extent they are willing to read with comprehension and go against what their trainer told them-

yep that last one was a dig i could not resist.i would have said the same on the radio-

It will be hard to run the way you are doing if you go on e-logs it sounds like. there is not any lee way really. It is just too bad they couldn't come up with a plan to let things like this record without eatin' up your 14hr, or if just a few miles from a T/S you could get to it.

I think e-logs will be here to stay and no telling how many years before it will become mandatory for all trucks, it is the newest thing for DOT to try to monitor and catch perceived problems.

The only way I can a person making more money using them is if your company truely kept up with you and made sure you had a load just as soon as you got through with the load you were on, and that it didn't have any wasted time on it. This would not count on all the really bad shippers who will keep you waiting for 5hrs to load or unload because they just don't care; this is where I think they need to crack down at in legislation, it would make a lot of differance if your time wasn't wasted waiting all the time.

I have driven with both. Only had a few months of elogs and years of paper. From talking with drivers from other companies, there is a wide range of variables in how the elogs put you on driving time and what you can or can't do to scam the system. The elogs I used would let you go 2 miles before it would put you on the drive line. As someone posted earlier, some go by how fast you drive. One thing that isn't different, is how much time you show for a drop/hook or loading/unloading. You control how much time you log for that, because we all log that time it takes to find the spot to drop your load, find your empty, inspect it and go stand in line at receiving to get your paperwork signed on line 4, right?

One thing I did like about the elogs was never having to figure out exactly what town that rest area was in and taking the time to log that quick break. It surprised me how much time it saved to not have to play around with a log book. I'm not saying elogs are better, but there are a few advantages.

I forgot about the having to remember what town you were in to record on log, that was a hassle.

no hassle.just whip out the trucker atlas or ask on the cb! I don't have a gps either so that atlas is already well worn and i just updated to the 2012 a couple months back. yes ma'am i am an antiquated driver.

I'm on elogs now and hate them. I spend most of my 10hr breaks at the shippers. Some times I get 5hrs sleep, wake up check in, try to sleep more while they unload, if they get it done in 2 hrs I go check out, park again and try to go back to sleep for the 2 hrs I have left. Then it's time to drive again am I rested nope but according to FMCSA elogs make things safer.
