You have to match your traveling speed and RPM to certain gear. Either one of em off you cant engage. So watch carefully what everybody else is doing. Some students maybe better than you

    Yes 1500-1600 RPM usually ok.
When i was in school my instructor told me
    2nd gear 2x2 4 mph
    3rd gear 3x3 9 mph
    4th 4x4 16 mph
    5th 25
    6th 36 etc
That was 8 speed tranny. Maybe yours kinda similar

So after thinkin it up for the day I am sure I know what I did wrong, this is the first time ever for me driving anything bigger than my silverado. Ive driven all kinds of manual cars. In manual vehicles you wait a few seconds between gears to shift you have long gears compared to a tractor. In a tractor you shift real quick between gears. I was waiting to long and was way over 2000 rpms when shifting hence why I wouldnt shift into the next gear.

The sweet spot is where the motor runs the best while in gear, not where you shift. The shift range is the rpm range where shifting is easiest. Every truck is different. Sometimes it takes a while to learn what that is, also low range is usually different from high range. It sounds confusing but after shifting a truck a couple thousand times you'll figure it out. Take your time and pay attention to the tach.

Yes, car and pickup transmissions are NOT meant to be floated. Sure, you can do so, but its not good on the synchos. I once had my clutch cable bust on my Ford Mustang, so I floated it home and installed a new cable, but normally I dont do that in a light vehicle transmission.
