I saw this job posted with home daily time for drivers with at least 3 months experience. I am a low experience driver looking to enter the field and learn as much as I can while not living on the road. They have a few recruiting events coming up I plan to attend but wanted to hear driver's experience. Anyone have experience with this position?

The days of the renegade rail haulers are pretty much over, it's actually a pretty respectable job right now. Equipment has gotten better, thanks to inspections, facilities much better, and most is all local work, just don't expect anyone to help you. I did Chicago rail yards for almost 5 years 20 years ago, when things were really bad. Lot of goods move by container, you'll never be short of work.

You’ll make decent money learn the trade correct way with SNI. I’ve talked to intermodal drivers at pilot near Gary some grossed close to 1900 a week home daily account.

I can confirm this. Schneider taught me the right way to do everything, I kept my nose clean, and now I work for a pretty good company. They were a decent set of training wheels.

I went to their job fair and was surprised I was the only driver applicant there when I walked in. I brought the printed out post for the job that required 3 months and the recruiter told me my experience was too old and not consistent. He recommended I take refresher training at a CDL school so I asked them which ones do they work with and he gave me a list of 4. I called one that had an opening for the end of the month so I plan on going there and brush up on my skills and earn a certificate that they and other might recognize since I am not a graduate of a CDL school.

I checked the job listing today and they changed it to not requiring 3 months experience so I called the recruiter back and he said to apply and call him once I start the refresher training and I should be good.

I did Chicago intermodal as an O/O in the late 90's. I hope the situation has improved since then. The rail yards were located in lousy neighborhoods ( except the BNSF in Hodgkins, and the IC in Lansing), and the equipment was less than stellar,
