Is this normal? Living in truck, no parking, no truck stops.

my DBL was for payroll and to send me loads. I would get stuck in LA for weeks at a time doing San Francisco runs up and back, and got tired of being homeless. I put "Schneider" into Google maps and Bone Apple Tea what do you know, a little intermodal outpost right down the street. If you have a driver number anything orange is for you to use. The good part was getting a load, that meant getting far enough north to a pilot to take a shower.

 

Just gtfo of Ca.

If you're fine with living in the truck, there are endless jobs here in Tx right now and you'll make more than enough $.

 

Have you tried negotiating with Schneider about this? There's a driver shortage, after all. You should have enough leverage to demand a nightly hotel and meal allowance, given that they're having you run a lane that doesn't have driver friendly services.

 

Pee on your feet in the shower. Urine kills all those nasty fungal diseases. I never wore shower flip flops, and never contracted a nasty fungal disease. You're safe. Carry on.

edit: I even showered sans flip flops at the truck stop in Kearny, NJ. Still no fungal disease.

 

Without reading the whole thread - Going to Ontario everyday, and back is a little out of the question, especially in traffic, and you gotta spend $20 to stay there anyway.

There are places to park nearer there for free, but no showers.

Your best bet is bailing up the hill near Santa Clarita and a little further north. There's a Peelot up there, several small stops, and some cheap motels, good for just a shower, and lots of $10 night parking lots. Lots of restaurants.

There's a Blue Beacon in South Central of the 110, that lots of guys park around with a Chinese and Indian restaurant.
If you go south of there, then go down one of those side streets to the east, you can park there, no facilities. It's marked everywhere " No Parking ", but I've never been bothered.

Go up by Santa Clarita.

 

That is some Fear Factor sheat...u know skin is porous right?? Even when it's DRY, much less soggy and being stomped on...

Because you made a comparison about hespiria being similar to other desert towns- thought you were talking about the heat
Curious why you don't like staying in desert town if heat is not the issue
And that is not a false repersitation of LA
I know that some of the places are not truck stops or parking places
But that's the app I use when I'm on the road to find a place to park for the 10 and 34

It's not just LA
Most of the major major cities are like that
You wont get any closer than 45 minutes to an hour from them
Yeah that's time out of my 11 but I don't have to try and find places to park and run out of my 11

 

Why do any drivers actually work in California? If all drivers refused to work in CA, they'd get the message pretty quickly.

Never had an issue. Real truck drivers aren't concerned with trivial issues like skin porosity. We figure out how to mitigate the hazards, stay clean, and get the job done.
