Before this thread I have never seen OP's posts and had no idea about him being new. And yes, he does appear to have business sense, because he already felt that he screwed up with that load and that was the reason for creating this thread.
All of you thinking that you will make a good relationship with a broker by charging a little amount to get a foot in the door, are up for a good surprise down the road, when you realize that nobody gives a crap about you and brokers don't remember favors.
Late night Expedited. Did I charge enough?

Next time I'll feel em out more and charge more, depending on all applicable factors. Certainly will add a $500 minimum to the mix.singlescrewshaker Thanks this. -
In the meantime, I'm not sure where to post this very green question, but just real quick... We aren't 'required' to run only major freeways with scale houses and checkpoints right? I'm not necessarily trying to avoid them today, but my route is 50 miles shorter through the 4 corners to Denver. There is a scale around there somewhere but it may be closed at night. Not sure

Dodging a chicken house in plain sight can get you a bit of trouble if they see you purposefully avoiding them. Like taking the exit before the scale only to ride a service road around it. The bears won't take kindly to that. Not sure of the actual violation code, but they know it well..
Being on the big road seems fun at 1st. 70-80mph speed limits, just cruising & making good time. After a while, I've learned not only is the scenery, & mom & pop diner's better on the 2 lanes, but there are way less scales to be hassled at..

Hey @singlescrewshaker , is there a free app you know of that shows truck restricted roads? Or if not free, what do you recommend, an app, or standalone device?
singlescrewshaker Thanks this. -
Also Trucker Path app might have a paid GPS.? Good free app to have anyhow. Help find truck stops, cat scales, parking, weigh station status..
I use a Garmin Dezl 570LMT, (old 2015 model) & Google maps with street view to look around. Street view & satellite is good for looking around for no truck signs, & getting a feel of pick & drop locations. Can read signage at locations to find which driveway to enter, exit, things like that..
Pickup a Rand McNally truck specific road atlas. That is priceless IMO. I got the spiral bound one with laminated pages. You can write on it & wipe it off that way. Around $40-$50 I think in most major truck stops. Now that it's getting close to years end you might find a 2020 atlas on sale. Paid $20 for my 2018 atlas at a Loves in Nov. '18 I think.. Either way that's a great investment because all the roads will be highlighted that are truck safe. Lots of other pertinent info too about bridge law, & weight limits. Most you don't have to concern yourself with yet at less than 26k lbs, but never hurts know/or have on hand..
With the atlas you can plot your route to make sure you are on truck specific routes. Then its slow & time consuming but you can even enter turn by turn directions into Google maps if it doesn't match up with how you'd like to go..Xray4 and God prefers Diesels Thank this. -
Edit: This is with Google Maps.24kHotshot, Xray4 and singlescrewshaker Thank this. -
There probably are more truck specific apps available.. I am pretty behind the times technology wise, but I find the Rand McNally atlas book is still the best investment..
Truck specific GPS, I heard the Rand McNally has better routing & truck POI's than the Garmin Dezl does. But I've also heard the Dezl has better hardware, so it's a sturdier unit that won't glitch out as much.. Fun choices, eh..?Xray4 and God prefers Diesels Thank this. -
Funny, I was just typing up some more saying how I'm not very tech savvy right as you mentioned this.!!God prefers Diesels Thanks this.
