I am a new driver with PAM, I was assigned a mentor who screamed and yelled all the time and would hit stuff in the truck and I didn't feel like it was a safe environment so I ask for a new mentor. I was told if I got a new mentor I would have to sit in a hotel in Ohio, and my pay would stop and not start again till a new mentor picked me up. I have been here for a week now. I also had to wait 4 weeks for a mentor to pick me up after school and was told I didn't get paid for that time either.
So I have been out if school for 6 weeks and made a total of 68.00. Does this seem right to you guys?

I'm not with PAM but your situation is not unique to PAM and is a serious situation for anyone if it's like you say.

But having bad trainer/trainee experiences seems to be a common occurrence with new drivers at trying mega carriers. But if this trainer truly has a "temper problem" or otherwise is not good with dealing with other people, they have NO BUSINESS training and PAM has a responsibility to keep their new drivers in a safe environment and away from individuals of "authority" who abuse their status and leave the trainee feeling fearful in such a confined environment. No way anyone can learn in an environment where tempers flare every time the student does not do things the way the teacher wants or expects.

If they do not seem to be making reasonable efforts to get you reassigned and/or compensating for your lost time and hotel costs because of their putting you with their unstable "trainer", I'd be using all that idle time to be composing a journal that would be used in a future law suit or unemployment claim.

Change companies. While you're sitting there, submit some online job applications.
Reason for leaving Pam : "Low pay; $68.00 in 6 weeks which is $11.34 per week.
Which state do you live in?

If your a new CDL holder just let them know you don't think there the right company for you and your going home. Plenty of companies with similar pay and equipment. This is only if you have a good MVR else wait it out.

Submit several applications and maybe a company will set up an orientation date for you.
Here's some that hire new cdl grads.
Freymiller - their "Restore Program" is for new cdl grads & drivers with less than 6 mos. exp.
Navajo Express - headquarters in Denver
    Abilene Motor Express
    Pride Transport
    Contract Freighters - www.cfidrive.com
Quest Global - usually want 3 mos. exp. but sometimes cuts slack on that.
TransAm - can do ok there if you don't lease; just be a company driver.
    Southern Refrigerated Transport
    Butler Transport
Do the online applications before any phone calls. Call and say, "I'm checking on my job application."

Eagle KMC Transportation headquartered in Tucson hires new cdl grads. It's dry van. Don't know how nice the trucks are though.
