I WUV the old SD122 daycab, but I know nothing about sleeper models which I assumed would be a custom installation if there is enough frame. If any one ever remembers the old Freightliner long nose 75' model with the big cat and 13 speed that can stop the earth or run with anyone would understand.

Western Star needs to be a little conservative. Their trucks looks like at times having escaped from Willy Wonkas loading dock. I'll see what they come up with on that model but we'll see.

The only people who love badge engineering are the accountants. And the board members who employ them.

And maybe the Marketing Dept, for the job security, as they spend countless overtime hours convincing everyone else that it's a totally new and different thing.

I agree. I am absolutely sick of the BS dripping out of those departments. Ive had trucks from the 50's models to the later 2010's in my life and frankly the more I see the new stuff, the less I am inclined. Esepcially when they fill it with lane, radar, brake auto slam, company mandated sensors designed to get a driver fired for braking too hard when cut off in Houston and all the rest of it.

If they can understand what a good basic truck is made and go back to those days where you can almost work on it with a tool box, parts and a shade tree without all the modern BS then maybe they will have billions in sales and celebrate.

I talk too much, but there is that. I wont buy a modern truck if I can get a older one which I know will do the same job at maybe a little more fuel bill without the modern BS it has become. STyling etc has no meaning to me. Its function only.

Here you go: Western Star Trucks

The new Freightliner SD with a Star 4700 hood. Yaay.

Sure glad I have my 2020 4900 now. Soon it will be more multi-plex wired, cheap junk.

I remember when Star's were real trucks. Hand built in Canada.

There is a lot of new stuff on this model. You might be surprised.

Seeing all those shiny new Stars parked out around the factory was literally the only thing I gave a #### about when we went to Kelowna when I was young. My father and a few of his coworkers were lucky enough to get a factory tour because the company ordered a bunch of new Stars. Its a shame that Daimler-Chrysler got involved.

If it doesn't have external breathers, standard basic point to point wiring, basic grade 8 frame bolts and the current dash where I can get 20 gauges in and the current DataStar display (not that crappy dash screen in the 5700) I'm not interested.
Running out of good classic trucks to buy. Retirement may be coming soon.

I had a 2013 4900SF, after three years hopper bottom on the prairies it still didn’t rattle or squeak. Nice simple truck to work on.
I now have a 2016 Cascadia, rattled and squeaked from day one. Has something like 7 computers in it. Replaced both plastic aluminum heater cores, and just recently the plastic aluminum radiator. It’s not standing up to the roads we have in Saskatchewan.
Thinking of another 4900SF next time, perhaps with a Cummins.

My 2013 heavy spec 4900 was built by what seemed like disgruntled drug addicts. But this 2020 has way fewer flaws. But I can still nit-pick a few things.
But still, they are one of the nicest styled exteriors and interiors left out there today.
We buy them more for the current design design, the strong frame and cabs, and the point to point wiring and deal with the build quality which can still be improved.

Me, I prefer Detroit over any of the new engines. This 2020 has huge improvements over the 2013. I don't have any regen issues at all. The 2013 issues started right from the start.
