JB will not let you run under your own authority, you have to run under theirs. One of our O/O's with his own authority went to work for them a few years back when it was slow, they would made him operate under theirs.

CH Robinson, Landstar, etc., check with brokers, forwarders, etc.. You also need to make sure you meet all the requirements for the ramps or ports you are operating out of. My best advice, until you get some real knowledge, find an established intermodal carrier in your area, go to work for them. Make sure they will take you as an independent. The company I work for, we have 3 O/O's, they are independents, they only use us and our SCAC for access to the rail, depots, and we act as a broker to them. They are paid 90% of what we charge the customer for the haul. I've seen some of their settlements, $4,000/week to the truck for 5 days is not uncommon, that's running local for 8 to 10 hrs per day, but then again, if we get slow, they will be the first to sit, company drivers will take priority.

Load match $600/ year to use their loadboard. We dont use the loadboard we just sign up for the free section which list us on the site and brokers and shippers call us. Best thing is word of mouth, pull for some brokers to start off to get in the door then talk to the customers when you go pickup and deliver to get direct contact with them.

How many trucks do you have? You can make it with 1 truck but it will not be a walk in the park. They like when you have more than one truck for various reason, if the one truck break down you can still move the load also if they have multiple loads they dont have to book separate companies to do the job. Example one broker have 10 loads for the week 50 miles each way. If you have 5 trucks you can cover 2 loads per day with each truck. If one truck get caught up in the port/ rail yard and can only do 1 load for that day another truck can cover 3 loads on that day. If you only have one truck try to link up with other o/o in the area you will get more work when you tell the broker you have 3 or 4 trucks. He dont care what's the name on the side of the truck

It's also good to have a drop yard or have access to one. Sometime you are going to pickup a load and can't take it into the port that day. You might have to hold it a day or two and you didnt know this until you show up at the port. Park it at a drop yard so your truck not tied up with that load hook to it and charge broker or customer for storage. Samething if the customer have a container going in demerge and they have to get it out the port, but they not ready for the load at the warehouse. Keep it until they ready for it and charge storage. I don't post on here a lot but my YouTube is (island trucker) reach out if you need any info

    Hello
So I’m looking for help in getting intermodal loads. I just got my own authority been doing container work for almost 2 years being leased on to a bigger company but decided I wanted to go on my own. I have my insurance already and set up with UIIA for the ports. I am just having a really hard time getting freight. I have tried loadmatch.com and DAT load board but nothing much comes up. Does anybody know how to get loads for intermodal.

As was said earlier in the thread the best way for someone with their own authority is to find a company that pulls containers and haul through them.

They say there are companies out there you can use as a broker and they give you 90%.

I started looking into that when I first got my authority but I didn't really find anywhere near me and I did pretty good with my own trailer hauling loads without all the port nonsense.
