    I am the distribution manager for a company. We have recently started looking into purchasing a truck and doing a lease to own option for the right driver. One of our largest customers is on the East Coast ( we are on the West Coast) and our raw materials supplier is in the South East. Our thought was that our truck could deliver to the Customer and then pick up our raw materials on the back haul. Looking for any input. Maybe we should just hire a driver and not do the lease option? What would you want from a company in a lease to own option. Are there any companies out there that are known for doing it right by the drivers?

    Why bother going the lease to own route? Just contract out to an o/o and bypass the truck financing hurdle.

    If you do it right that's where you're going to wind up anyway. You're just adding the step of providing the capital to a new o/o.

    One of the big problems you will have is what happens if the truck goes down or the driver wants a vacation. How often are the runs from west to east and east to west.

    Im with Mystic hz on this one. Just contract out with an O/O. If your pay is good. You wont have a problem finding an O/O willing to run dedicated on your south east to all over east coast run.
    If you willing to help out with things like fuel discount, MAJOR break down assistance etc.. That all the better amd makes you all that more attractive.

    What are you hauling?
    Dimensions?
    Weight?
    Trailer type required?
    Amount of axles?
    Two trips per month or?
    How do they take vacation time?
    What happens when sick?
    What amount of cargo insurance is needed?
    Hazmat?
    How old of a truck will you allow?

    And about a thousand other questions need answering.

    Another option is buying your own trailer, and hiring power only O/O to pull it, then anyone can. Which means if they get sick, quit, take vaca time, you can just hire another tractor to pull.
    It just opens up more options, as not everyone will have a trailer that exactly meets your needs.
