Work a year, take a year off, work a year, take a year off. Is company driving best?

When you work for a temp agency though isn't it essentially like 1099 contract work where you don't get benefits or any kind of retirement contribution ( 401k, etc )? That's essentially why your pay is higher b/c you're getting straight cash in lieu of those other benefits?

I'm heartened to see the responses to this question, I figured it would be the sort of thing that would be met w/ a lot of opposition and accusations of laziness by all of the hard-core super truckers. I have a similar goal to drive for the next three - four years, save up as much as possible and then take 1-2 years off to go back to school full time.

The one hurdle I haven't figured out though is how to have medical insurance when I'm not working? My wife and I both have insurance through my job now and even though she works full time it's at a small company that only employs about eight people and doesn't offer insurance. I'm thinking I might have to tell my wife that she needs to find a better job in order to make my dreams come true! LOL!!!

@MYSTYKRACER - Temp companies are W-2 and some do have benefits. The trucking company pays the temp service and the temp service pays the driver.

If you're a military vet or the wife is, check with www.USAA.com for medical insurance.

Medi-Share also has health insurance that's supposed to be cheaper than with the traditional companies.
