I'm older and I have been partially disabled. Things are better now thanks to modern medicine, but I have limitations on lifting and standing. I have about 10 to 12 years before I can get social security. So I've been thinking that driving might be a good option for me. (I used to drive armored cars long ago). I'm just not sure if I'm up to full-time at least at present. Are there any opportunities for part-time trucking?

    Upinsmoke Thanks this.

driver-leasing companies, sorta like a temp agency.

you tell them what hours/days/nights you can work.

you might be able to get on with a company and stay there (under the temp agency payroll) or you might be working for different companies each time you call in for work.

There are "driver leasing" companies that provide temporary drivers to companies. You can work any schedule you agree to. Part-time, part year, Thursdays off, whatever.

Schneider offers part time in various markets. Search their job board with your zip code. The only requirement in my area is a 7 day run every 30 days. There is even flexibility within those requirements if you demonstrate you are a safe, reliable driver. They have been exceptional to me, professional in every aspect. So, the answer to your question is yes.

There are also some drive away companies that are happy to use part-time drivers.

Possibly, but if you don't have a friend or family member already in the business, finding a part time job would likely be very hard, especially with lifting and standing issues.

You might consider looking into dump truck work, or yard truck work. My uncle has had two jobs for 30 years. In the warm season, he drives a dump truck for a quarry. In the cold season, he drives a plow for the state.

    Upinsmoke and GrandmaRosa Thank this.

By looking at the sidebar, sounds like you have a lot of questions. I didn't read them all, but I hope you have some background in trucking. P/T generally doesn't fly in trucking. They will promise you the moon, but if you are in a spot where they need you, guess what? "Just this once", they'll say. Medical exam could hold you back too. It's not all sitting on your duff, you will have to do some physical work at some point. Quite frankly, you'll make about as much as a Walmart checker, and be around for the grandkids. Grandmas are people persons, you may be disappointed at the kind of people in trucking today.

Staffing agencies that hire cdl drivers have part time work available.
Trillium Staffing is popular with truckers.
