Do national carriers give you a choice of areas?

Be careful on where you request to go. Most companies will keep you far away from the areas you want to go to, or like to run. The areas you hate with a passion, you will see those the most

Why does everyone hate the NE? Is it just because of New York?

No, because of tolls, lack of parking, stricter idling laws, and traffic. Good rates going in, cheap freight coming out

When you're new, and if you're with a training company, they will steer you away from home.

Drivers that haven't been away from home then find themselves there get all the emotional drama from wife, kids, blah, and some are reluctant to leave in a timely manner.

If you're a good driver, and a good navigator, you'll find they'll send you there.

Everything is a toll road. Toll bridges.

    There's lots of booby traps.
    Low bridges
    Weight restricted routes.
    Length restricted routes.
    Weight restricted bridges.

Very easy to get in trouble.

There's also almost no parking, and it seems as everyone is pissed off.

God love you if you have a mechanical issue.

@GrandmaRosa I m sure it wouldn t be hard to get to GA or FL. Its about to be grilling season in the South. I m sure Publix, Kroger, Winn Dixie, Walmart, Super Valu, would want their ribs, steaks, hot dogs and hamburgers somehow, and since that s what National Carriers hauls mostly

The company I work for is pretty good about that. Home terminal is in Dallas but I have requested and been approved home time in Fl, Ga, Chicago, NJ, So. Cal and N. Ca. If we have a terminal there I can do home time there. I just have to ask two weeks in advance.

During the winter months I prefer to run east coast too. They usually accommodate me. The farthest West I go during winter is Chicago, unless I am doing home time. Then I will go from Dallas to Kansas or Mo for a load back to the east coast. During spring, summer, and fall I run all over.

Don't waste your time. Look at other carriers. National does a lot of North East

I don't go home at all except for required reasons like medical checkups and stuff.

I don't have a choice in where I run, but I can request to take my home time anywhere I want as long as I give them an address I'd be parking the truck at. I typically run for a couple months and take a week off.
