Have you tried Swift. 2 users on this forum are from NH and have been hired by Swift.

Flatbroke is from Londonderry and has been with his mentor for 2 weeks now.

rmarieril is from Concord and is supposed to go to orientation in October.

Orientation for Swift for New England is in Syracuse NY.

Fill out an application on line and if you don't hear from them in a day or two call them. Being from our area it is about a three month wait from when you apply to when you go to orientation. My app was approved on June 2nd and I will be going to orientation on Sep 15th.

Go to Motor Carrier Questions - the inside scoop and click in DAC reports for swift. If you go to the thread Swift - Syracuse NY you will be able to see some info on this.

    Good Luck

You should look real close at CR England. Read all the posts under both good and bad truckling companies. Also under trucking company DAC reports.

Do you realize that if you go with England you will have to attend a 17 day course. It is for people with a CDL but no expierence. This course cost you $1395. Plus a $100 mdollar nonrefundable fee to enroll.

At least with Swift they will not charge you anything if you have your CDL.

Oh and with CRE you don't get paid for those 17 days.

I agree with bill, Swift has it's problems. But they are a good place for rookies to start. I'd stay the hell away fro CRE.

    Something about CR England

The school Im at had a previous student go to CR because his record was jacked and they would take him. He just came back after ditching them. Said you either pay them $500 upfront OR you take the 17 day refresher course, and pay $3000 through your paychecks.

You drop $500 and you are considered safe.

These guys are like the ###### mafia.

Being 23 is going to be the big problem. All carriers running national require a minimum age of 23. Stay away from CRE. Even if they are the only ones willing to take you, it won't be worth your time.

Well, unlike you I don't have my CDL yet. However, I am going to school with Stevens starting Monday. They have a 3 week school for CDL, and then you are OTR with a trainer for 4-5 weeks, then back at the terminal in Dallas for about a week for more testing, then out with a finishing trainer for another 4 weeks. Since you already have your CDL, you would go to orientation (not paid) for about a week, and then out with a trainer (paid $350/week for the time you are with your trainer and your finishing trainer). I know this sounds like a long time until you go solo (about 10-11 weeks). However, you are a young guy and have a long career ahead of you. I'm more than twice your age, but in changing careers to driving professionally, I felt that the extra time would only help me in the long run. I actually like that they don't just turn you loose with a $100K truck and expect anything other than failure. They are picky, but you sound like you're clean, and you're probably too young to have all the age-related health issues yet. I have been to their terminal and done about as much homework on them as one can do.

Are they perfect? NO. No company that takes people without any experience is going to be perfect. But they aren't the worst out there by a long shot either. There is a great thread on this forum by FozzyBear that you should search out. It details what he went through from day one all the way through, and he's about ready to go solo. I think Stevens would be a good fit for you because you're so young, but I don't know what their age limit is. It would be worth checking. Just my 2 cents.

I wish you luck whoever you end up with.
