Locals don't usually have recruiters. Usually.
They also usually run manuals. Usually.

Garbage trucks have autos. Can't think of anything else at the moment. I'm not awake yet.

If you have local ads. Start there. And unemployment boards.

There's construction. Dump trucks. Gas haulers, oil. Milk. I haul food waste. Haz chemical haulers. Etc.

 

Thank you for the kind words and I’m very glad to hear how it worked out for your girlfriend, stories like this gives me renewed faith in the industry.

I’m not sure where exactly Willis Tx is, so I’m not familiar with the local market. I’ve read some folks mention tanker. I do know that most gas delivery where I live is night work. I would suggest getting in touch with Loves and Pilot/Flying J. They are always hiring as well and do train. The good thing about that deal is they leave the truck and trailer at the truck stop.

Auto-only CDL is just a tiny hindrance for most of the industry. Auto-only jobs in the oilfield and heavy haul/oversize are very scarce.

There are dump truck jobs almost everywhere, but she may or may not want to do that. I don't have a good feel if those are with autos or not.

Fuel delivery is in almost ever middle size city. I've only been pulling HazMat tankers 2.5 years after 23 years pulling vans. I have an auto and I think autos are common in tanker, but I don't have the time in this segment to be very confident of that conclusion.

With 2 year OTR there are home-daily jobs in most cities, but MAYBE not her/your city.

Google trucking companies and your location and then research them thoroughly. She may have more options is bigger locations. But if I were here I'd stay at DHT and do a thorough search, then do thorough research on her few best options, and then insist on talking to current drivers at her best candidate companies before making a decision.

I did home-daily dry van for a long time before my current job. At first, doing home-daily is great because you have a more normal schedule. But, compared to OTR, you trade the end of week or end of "out time" and the rush to get home to a daily rush to get home with much less time home before going back.

Also, overtime pay is not required in trucking. There is an exemption in the law for trucking. So it's possible to work 60 hours per week and only earn straight time. Companies can CHOOSE to pay OT. And they can CHOOSE to pay OT after 40 or after 8 per day.

Research pays off in spades in this industry. Don't move until her questions are answered.

 

There are tons of home-daily HazMat tanker jobs in the Houston and Galveston area if that isn't too far away from her.

 

LTL line haul gig sounds fitting for her if she can handle nights starting out. And once she's at top pay scale (~3 yrs give or take most places) 100k + isn't out of the question

I used to deliver fuel to some local trucking companies and when I told one that I knew a new unexperienced driver that was looking for a job they said no dice he needs one year experience to apply. When they overheard that the he was a she the hiring manager came out and gave me his number to pass on to her.

Some companies are actively trying to recruit more women. Add to this she has experience and she may be in a better position than she thinks. Figure out where she wants to work and apply to those places. I’m sure someone will bite. Good luck.
