Our loaders are required to ride with a driver at least once in the first month they are with us

I think at least once again after a year or so would also be a good idea.

Also management on the docks should have to go on regular route rides to see what problems are occurring as a regular occurrence.

Agreed. My router was a driver, and does ride alongs a few times a year. Still are days my drivers think he hates them...

So my truck tried to kill me the other day...Was going down the highway, came around a bend and spotted a tire up ahead in the center of my lane. There were a bunch of cars in the next lane over, meaning I wouldn’t have had much chance to get over, so I figured I could just roll over it without actually hitting it.

Well the bendix collision avoidance system didn’t like that idea at all. First it chimes and a message popped up on the dash saying object detected and another message popped up on my ELD saying this was being recorded. No big deal, it does that every day for an overhead sign. But then about a second later my dash lights up in bright red and it just says BRAKE! and despite my foot on the accelerator it braked as hard as possible, from 65 down to about 45 in a few seconds.

If the road had been icy or wet, I have no doubts it would have put me in the ditch.

THIS, THIS..... is why I will NOT drive these new trucks. Its also why my boss buys older trucks, without the unnecessary avoidance systems.

As tired as I get at work and today made me tired I was out of gas early on. However, I will say this I got my pay check today, and boy does that help to keep me motivated. I was able to pay my 6 months car insurance, my electric bill (only 25.00 but still) and a small credit card bill, budget some money for the week and weekend and save some money on top of that!

    MACK E-6, dwells40, Cardfan89 and 2 others Thank this.
