Can you rent a cdl truck with a cdl permit?

    I'm talking about a single axle tractor or a 26ft box truck with only having a cdl permit....

    You need a full grown up CDL A.

    Rental places need those. Not anything less. A sort of license is not a licens at all in the world of insurance etc. You are either a colt, filly or a full grown workhouse meeting minimum insurance requirements

    Why do rental companies rent trucks with air brakes, air ride suspension and air seats and lift gates if there used for moving from house to house? I thought you can only drive anything with air brakes with a cdl with the air brake endorsement...

    I know that about uhaul but budget, Penske, Ryder(mostly commercial anyway) and enterprise rent trucks that are under cdl weight with cdl equipment...

    You can only drive a truck that requires a CDL with airbrakes if you have a CDL without an airbrake restriction.

    If the truck does not require a CDL, like a Penske 26' box truck with a GVWR of 26,000 lbs the CDL restrictions simply do not apply.
