Owner operators with their own authority. Would not become classified as employees.
Unless you only run for 1 business. (Company or broker) Even then, as long as you determine your own schedule for driving and control the finances, the independence would prove you are a contractor.

I sometimes think what this bill would do to true owner ops, will it raise rates? The reasoning I have maybe I’m wrong is if companies are now obligated to raise rates to fully comply with it won’t be to eager to undercut each other for rate reduction, as the overhead increase so will rates.

I am against big government meddling in the “free market” but one must wonder what it could do to the industry.

AB5 created havoc for many Californians, I don't think the consequences were ever thought of. Many lives and incomes have been interrupted as a result of this. Don't believe the hype that it was created to protect workers, it was created to collect tax dollars and gain union members. Californians need to pull together and vote.

It applied to anyone with a 1099 job. Gardeners, housekeepers, all across the board.

Landstar and all the big carriers cut ties with everyone from the communist state that was domiciled there.

California's rates are some of the worst in the country at the moment.
