With all this CARB nonsense going on, what exactly happens to old engines that are no longer carb compliant and a driver wants to get a newer CARB compliant engine. Ive heard that the old engine has to be destroyed or rendered useless in order to get grant money towards a newer truck. Anyone know what the procedure is on this or have pics?

I think Mexico.? Read think in Overdrive magazine a place got rid of a nice older non compliant trk. According to the article they ( carb) told him where to get rid of it, and owner received a sum of money for the truck. It had satellite unit in behind the dash. Previous owner forgot about it. On thinking of it., he traced the trk running the roads in Mexico. Kinda answers your question although yours was engine only. His trk was supposed to be scrapped? I think? Guess someone found a buyer.

Hide them in the basement at home. Tarp them good, drain all fluids and love on them.

You will find some day those engines will have a value that will make it worth the trouble of keeping them They don't cost anything sitting quietly waiting for that special day...

But destroying them? thats small minded thinking and a form of greed.

If it's anything like cash for clunkers they are to be shredded at the recycle place. Also if it's like cash for clunkers they will be resold either either south of the border or loaded into empty containers going back to China to be sold points middle east.

Fortunately all those other countries don't contribute to air pollution.

Europeans think most of the smog in their cities came from old wood burning stoves/fireplaces in their homes.

I worked for a scrap operation, mostly in exporting salvage junk. Lots of property comes with destroy stipulations from some company but in reality if you arent gonna pay for the operator, fuel and machinery wear to do said destruction, piss off or destroy it yourself, this isnt a charity. The company will want to be paid for the "scrap" at regular rates then want to dictate what we do with it after. Buddy, you sell it to us, we do what we want with it and what we want is to maximize return. It only gets sheared if its best value is to export for smelter. If you want it 100% destroyed you pay us. Otherwise we piece the stuff out and all the little 3rd world smurfs come with box trucks in the night for the parts.

Very rarely a good enough contract would come along that we would actually destroy 100% while a representative watched.

I thought that the company or owner of the truck had to have a hole punched into the engine block to render it useless in order to get a 40k grant towards a new truck. That's what I heard at an International dealer many years ago.
