I drive for a fedex contracter. Maje sure your on a dedicated run. If you do window loads, you will sit alot and not have regular hometime.
Our route is about 5900 miles a week. Pay is great, but its a grind on the body.

 

Wouldn't your daily miles be on your logs?

 

You will recieve a hook sheet on each load. It has the paid mileage listed on it, along with trailer numbers and deliveey address.
If you are not sure of best route, ask linehaul, and they will print it ip for you.

Ground has not hired single O/O's in years. Contractors own many trucks there- are incorporated and lease their fleet to Ground. Look at the white tractors on the road and on the door in Gray lettering you will see the Contractors name. As new equipment comes on the cant even put the name Fedex Ground on the tractors anymore for legal reasons( only S/T's and vans doing actual deliveries).

 

Can anyone provide me with the current FedEx approved dash camera vendor list? Or please direct me to the right forum post, I'm looking to weigh out my options.

 

Like with all trucking firms, there are good ones and bad ones. You need to do a lot of research. Talk to drivers. Ask a lot of questions. With Fedex ground, you can't hardly find a solo job. 90% of it is team driving. Like it or not. Team driving is where the industry is headed. The trick there is finding a compatible team mate and working hard to get along. You find a sensitive subject... back off and talk about something else.

Fedex ground is all independent contractors. They could have 2 trucks or a 100 trucks. A lot of it has been taken over by investors. It is called "equity trucking".
It is like a franchise. A lot of these guys don't know much about trucking but they have a lot of money. They hire managers but they can be flakes.
There are good contractors out there. You just have to find one.
There are two ways of running. You can be on a dedicated route... usually 5 days on 2 days off and running 4000 to 5500 miles per week.. usually.
The 2nd way is running on an OTR wild team. That is where they go where they are told by the line haul office. The successful wild teams learn how to work the system. They are runners. They stay out for a month or more at a time and then take 4 to 7 days off. There goal is to get as many miles as possible. The successful ones run 6000 to 7000 miles a week. It isn't easy and you have to ask, cajole , do favors for the line haul people. Whatever you have to do to get miles. I know a guy that is tracking at 7400 miles this week. Most people can't be truck drivers. Well most truck drivers can't be successful Fedex Ground Wild team drivers. You have to have a special home life situation where the wife is willing to do without you for weeks at a time. You won't be at Timmy's graduation or Becky's recital.

if you can make your 6000 miles in a week at 70 cents a mile split.. that's $2100... not too bad for a guy that didn't go to college.
