Hi all.. i'm new here so I thought i would ask here. I looked around and didn't see any similar questions. Anyhow, I have my class A CDL (went through truck driving school in 1999, graduated top of my class) I never did anything with it once i got out though except drove garbage truck for about 2 months before going back to school to get my associate's degree, so I'm assuming i'll have to go back to trucking school, no biggy. Anyhow, I have a misdemeanor assault in 1998 and a providing alcohol to minors, also a misdemeanor in 2005.. I know this is going to hinder me from some companies, but which companies should I be looking at? I'm going to call a Prime recruiter in the morning because I have read really good things about them and I see they have their own school. My question isn't about Prime, there is enough info on here about them and I don't want to waste anyone's time. My question is, with my 2 strikes, which companies should I stay away from? BTW, I have no tickets, accidents, etc. for the last at least 5 years and I've been employed at the same place for the last 4 years. No felonies. Thanks guys!

Stay off the beaten path. The big driver mills and companies with dedicated HR, Safety, etc etc are not going to be an option right now according to all other testimonials. Find a small company check craig's etc and try to make some friends.

Like PharmPhail said, look for smaller companies, in truth, it will be tough until you get some recent experience.

Well here is the good news. You have worked at the same place for a while, You have no felonies, a good driving record and seem to be a basic good guy.

The bad news. You have shown a pattern for getting into trouble. And you have no CDL or experience. what you did in the past is beside the point. If it's not in the last 5 years. You have no experience.

Because of this, it will be hard. Companies are being picky right now and this will be all the reason they need to tell you no.

I really appreciate the comments guys and this is what I wanted to hear. However, I did call prime and talked to a recruiter there. He wasn't concerned with my record at all and said they are hiring right now. He also stated that since I already have my class A CDL that I would only need to take a refresher course somewhere (around 15 hours or so). The good part is that he said they will pre-qualify my application once they go over it so I don't take the refresher course for nothing. He said if everything checks out on the application, i'd go take my refresher course and they'd get me down there for orientation. At least it is a step in the right direction I guess. I will keep everyone updated on the status and thanks again for the comments and suggestions!

dont take offense to this cuz i dont mean any by it, but i was very shocked when i went to my CDL school, the 2nd worst driver we had already had a CDL that he had got about 10 years ago....i guess he forgot everything he had learned back then.....he couldnt do anything right and students was scared to ride in the truck with him

No offense taken at all.. That's kinda the way I feel I would be without going through school again. I did really well through school my first time, but that's because I took in everything the instructors said and driving on the range alot. Now, I would probably be horrible, so I contacted a local school here and they are tentatively starting me September 28th by my decision.. they could have gotten me in sooner, but my wife and I are going on vacation.. anyhow, they said I can probably get sponsored by USA truck. They are checking on it and i'll know more next week, but things are looking better than they were :biggrin_25525: If not, they have a few other companies they go with so i'll keep you all updated.. if this works for me, it could be a great opening for some other new drivers!
