Usually one is trainer and the other is with a second trainer and both pass the final test to get a truck together to be a team.
Having three in a single truck creates more problems than it's worth.

Then thats not training. Trainer will have to work 24/7 to keep up.
Some may disagree, but it is what it is.FerrissWheel and Greg0692 Thank this. -

In training, yeah, the trainer doesn't get a whole lot of sleep, especially the first couple of days. Our trainer managed to sleep when we were rolling smooth down the road, but if there was any alteration in speed, he was awake. Traffic jam, city traffic, stopping for fuel or breaks, he popped out of that sleeper like a jack in the box. And there were plenty of awake hours for him to actually teach us too. We won team of the month as the youngest team ever, as far as time from hire date. I'd say that says how well we were trained.
Driving was pretty much 10+ hours per shift, then sleep while the other student drives. The trainer only drove in two cases. We had to chain up in oregon. And I got too fatigued to drive to a safe haven one night.
What I liked about covenant over Schneider was the length of the training period. With cov it was over a month if you count finishing school after otr. With schneider its 10 days in the classroom and a week on the road. Yes, you're out and earning faster... but are you safe? How good are your backing skills with the shorter training? Your legal knowledge?
We came up against a wide variety of situations, and learned how to handle them.
For the record, I love working for covenant. Besides the benefits, which are better than many first year companies, the people are really awesome. My team bends over backwards for us, as we do for them. And there are a lot of side benefits, because of the safety mindedness of the company. As far as starter companies go, we have one of the newest fleets in the country. Our trucks are typically 300k or less miles, and you get a brand new one when you wear one out, plastic still on the seats, and that new truck smell. There are several money bonuses involved too. Feel free to message me if you want to chat. This post is already too long and I havent even begun to sing their praises.Vic Firth, LoSt_AgAiN and Greg0692 Thank this. -
And if the religious thing isnt a turn on for you, dont sweat it. It's totally not in your face at all, unless you like that kinda thing.
Greg0692 Thanks this. -
@MBAngel I don't even know where to start thanking you.
One thing I don't understand: How does the trainer get a legal 10-hrs off duty every day?
