They won't like it but if they are screwing you have it on terms that allow you some freedom. -
Yeah, if you are trying to break them of the habit, staying on duty should do the trick.
It will hit your pocketbook in the short term thoughTb0n3, dunchues, Dennixx and 1 other person Thank this. -

if you are awaiting dispatch, you should be on duty.
you are not released from duty to do as you please.
when you do get the load, recalculate the delivery time and let them know the LEGAL time, as per hours available.
I've done it and yes it hurt my bottom line until they got the message.tscottme, Coffey, Wasted Thyme and 2 others Thank this. -
Overall as a person, on a scale of 1-10, what would you rate yourself? Say for example, you took a person out to dinner and this person asked you this, and you say that you give yourself a 7 or an 8. This person responds by saying, "Well, I only see you as a 4." What would you do? Would you stay or would you leave? Would you invite the person out to dinner again in an attempt to change their mind? No, not if you really value yourself as highly as you say. Your sticking around is your way of accepting the lower value.
Now, the most valuable thing that you can ever give to another person is your time. You said it correct, "MY TIME IS IMPORTANT/VALUABLE." If you really want to see if someone values you, they will value your time. You don't even have to ask.
Luck in battle.MACK E-6, bzinger, Snow Hater and 8 others Thank this. -
These turkeys don't have their dispatch act together at all.
A competent dispatch/load planner team will have a pre-plan ready for BEFORE your next arrival to a consignee.
That you are waiting in perpetual agony for your next load assignment means the office staff are incompetent or simply don't have loads available.
There a dozens of other companies out there that are run efficiently and have the loads available. I would seek greener pastures if I were in your shoes.meechyaboy Thanks this. -
If I’ve stayed up all day waiting to get dispatched on a load; I just tell them that I’ve got to rest before rolling to pickup. There have been times where I’ve been running days and sleeping nights; and then I’ll get a load that flips it... and I just straight up tell them that I can’t always flip my sleep on a whim.

You’re the captain of that ship. So I’d be straight up with them. Ask them what’s going on with the load? Ask them again an hour later. You can ask again but after sufficient time tell them your done for the day. I was a early riser otr. And as a mega if I’ve consistently been getting loads assigned before noon if you can’t find nothing til after 4 it ain’t my problem. At that point I’d have been up for 8 hours. And the load you’re trying to give me is still going To be late no matter how it’s run. They wanna fire you and play games with your miles and time. They can find someone else to put in that seat. Put please do your part and communicate with them.
bzinger Thanks this. -
Company policy varies.
