Most flatbed drivers wouldn't know how to back up with them closed, me included. Every time I get a 45 I get confused.

Fast easier to back with them closed, IMO.

Edit to add: turn the bottom of the steering wheel the way you want the trailer to go.

Ha, it's not that we can't back up at all, just that the pivot is a fair bit different with duals that the first time in a while screws up your setup the first time.

I know. I close them when not needed for weight, open them when needed. It's, you know... my job.

I love the excuses though, real nice.

    cke Thanks this.

None of ours close. It's not an excuse. Most don't. Also it was a joke.

I run my spread open always. The only time I close them is when I’m in a real tight area so I can get the trailer to turn quicker. I think with the spread open, it rides better. Just my thoughts though.

    I'm kidding.

My sense of humor tends to be far too dry for most people to even think I have one.

Sometimes it's difficult to figure out which axle is gonna "steer" the trailer with a spread. I peddled milk for a while with a tri-axle spring ride trailer. It seemed like right in the middle of a backing maneuver, the trailer would decide to switch which axle it wanted to pivot on...very frustrating!

2 wreckers. Dead and final gears removed. What could go wrong? Easy peasy
