Any new information on saia trucking?

Insurance companies I imagine would be pushing hard for them as well.

Just wait until it gets slow they will start nit-picking camera issues again. The new team trucks have the Lytx drive cams in them but they are not hooked up no power to them.

 

Can anyone tell me about Saia, do they sleep In motels? Do they just go to terminals with no local delivery's ? Do they work the dock? Do they discriminate with the camera?

 

Yes, we are put up in hotels and we carry what's called a corporate lodging card to pay for the room, it just has to be a hotel that accepts CLC or one of the hotels listed on Saia EIC for that area, there are some bid runs that require some dock work, but it's not like the con way or fdx reship system, it's usually a dark terminal where the driver has to unload a couple pallets and load up a couple more and be on their way, sometimes systems drivers are subject to unloading some freight depending on situation, Saia calls them TBUs, a example would be a full Tucson trailer with maybe a Phoenix shipment on the tail, Saia would want the Phoenix pulled off in Phoenix and then send the trailer on to Tucson, dock will pull it off if they are there, if terminal is dark, central dispatch will make the call to just send the trailer on or to have the driver pull the freight off, other than that the lineruns are pretty much ran terminal to terminal or terminal to meet drop and hook.

 

As far as the cameras go, if you are asking if they use them, the answer is yes, they are looking for anything from following distance infractions to company policy violations, how the terminal you are domiciled at deals with it is another thing, seems like different terminals deal with issues differently throughout the system.

From your pic it looks like you work for Xpo. Saia is probably the same with a different name but without the dock work. But you can land a bid route at most terminals pretty quick and run miles. I know XPO in my area it took guys 10+ years just to not do dock work and run a 500 mile turn. My terminal has 1 work off bid that the dock workers are usually there to do it for the driver. So majority of the runs are driving and drop and hook only. But I’ve seen guys having to unload trailers but rarely. I had to one time take two pallets off a trailer to make an empty once in the year and half I’ve been here. That took me 15 minutes cause I’ve been on a forklift less then I can count with one hand in my life. Lol.
