Can't you buy new trucks without it? I would imagine those features are options at extra cost.

Never tried to myself. -
Well, I've haven't posted any random rants in a while so I figured I would pile on with this summary of my past two years.
I've had a memorable 6 years at USF Reddaway in Montana and have since relocated to my home state of South Carolina. I had a carry over driving job working for Dealer Supply moving flooring products before switching to USF Holland. I DID write up my experience with Dealer Supply which you can read all about. That job did come with a bunch of headaches which I explain in that thread. For the lack of better wording, that stint served one puporse and that is to get me enough work history down here to secure a mortgage I needed.
Moving forward, I was underwhelmed from working 100+ stops a week at Reddaway to doing 16-20 stops a week at Dealer Supply working four days a week. Yeah, it was nice riding around in a 78 MPH 2019 Cascadia but that added up fast. I'll cut to the chase since I just got done filing taxes and got all the raw date.
Dealer Supply 1/1/19 -5/24/19
$18,500 gross, zero benefits
Holland 5/28/19 -12/31/19
$44,700 gross, full benefits worth $27,500 a year. (Or $14.11 an hour on a 40 hour work week).
Now, as a condition to accepting my job at Holland, I did have to agree to join Teamsters. And to be honest, there is so much heated discussion going on and I had my own personal reservations about joining. That section is their own bubble which I am now part of and I promised I would NEVER complain about having to join cause I did so voluntarily.
I will say this, all the problems I had at USF Reddaway do not exist at Holland. I would like to tag a long time friend and TTR mod @MACK E-6 to keep my rant in check to meet the forum guidelines. I know how easy it is for this to take all kinds of offramps. But this is not my intent.
Holland LTL is way more laid back than what I experienced at Reddaway. It's insane how you come from a 6 stops per hour to a 1-2 stops an hour under what is the same company. Pendulum swings much slower and you get to chat with the customers and give them time to inspect their freight. It also gives me more time to take a breather and explore their restrooms and their break rooms... And holy crap, some time of them have Cantina style lounges.
I've been on TTR for 8 years. Signed up when I was still active duty military getting ready to start at Reddaway. I worked there for 6 years and complained for the majority of it.
This one isn't bad at all. It's a good gig I have.Last edited: Mar 3, 2020
Mike2633, misterG, The Shadow and 7 others Thank this. -
Went to hook my lead this morning and the landing gear had to be cranked all the way up on this trailer. Was ridiculous, I should of took a picture. Almost a foot between my fifth wheel and the trailer. Must be a new hostler. Happens again I’m gonna get the OM out there to see this BS.
