80 is dry, with a wind warning from Elk Mountain to Laramie for light, high profile vehicles. 70 has a bunch of speed zones and more mountain grades. Fuel is cheaper near Laramie along 80. 80 has more areas to park. 70 is more scenic. I usually go with which one has the least traffic or weather delays when I choose.

Miles are awash. Really dependent on weather forecast. And weight in the wagon. 80 will be easier on the truck if the wind is not howling.

You could even cut south through Moab and then 160 but you would need to check Wolf Creek pass for current weather conditions this time of year.

80 to 40 to 9 to 70 to 25.

My choice is related to weather. In extreme 40 up across Raton from the south would be third option, fuel be darned.
