Hello
I've been having my CDL-A for 6 years now but have never been over the road. I was working for a construction company driving dump trucks, water trucks, and once in awhile flat-beds. All this inside the job site & sporadically going to another job site 2 miles away.
I've been applying for local driving jobs but won't hire because of the lack of experience over the road.
They said I need 2 years minimum, (2200 miles a week) or a school certificate.
Called the school, they said you don't need school as you already have a CDL, you need experience.
So basically this is the classic "need money for college, need college for job, need job for money" theory.
I'm trying to stay local in east Houston as I have young kids but I would do regional.
I also have Tanker & Haz-Mat endorsements
The point is how to get in?
any suggestions, please?
6 Years with CDL, companies won't hire.

You need to take a refresher course through a OTR or local company that will be willing to train you.
Unfortunately without any recent Class A experience your pretty much out of luck until you get some driving time behind the wheel.
@Chinatown, he can help you. -
UPS
Fed-Ex
XPO
SpeeDee
DHL
USF....Holland, Roadway, YRC
Old Dominion....
Or maybe a smaller local company.
Most of the above listed companies have Dock to Driver programs that will get you experience and keep you local.
Or might hire you to do yard work, and put you in a truck as they see fit.
I'm sure that @Chinatown will along shortly to add help.oldstrong Thanks this. -
