80 is destroyed by herds of nanny governed steering wheel holding truckers smashing by the hundreds, wyoming insists on closing it constantly. So that's out.

I-70 just got a epic 20 foot storm overnight closing the tubes of Eisenhower and making the Lookout pass alternative something to be where you write a will before allowed to proceed over.

That leaves I-40 That interstate is the winter road for the USA. It does get storms at times but if Colorado Springs is the goal for a load there is always a way to get there. If one ignored the fuel burn.

The above is just a hypothetical situation that would cause me to drop all the way down to 40. One possible path would be the Green River Valley following a lonely route south. Hopefully its still possible to get southward in a weather and crash pattern like that.

The difference between running I-80 versus I-70 is about 5 miles, I-80 being shorter and over an hour faster.

    Flagstaff gets bad as well.
    I’d suggest 15 to 95 to 10 then up 25

Buy a plane ticket. It's faster and with the coronavirus, you could probably get there for $40.

Scenic and scary as all get out, but 70 over to Minturn and head up 24 up and over, it is a 2 laner and gets up there, but with this spring storm you never know the weather.

24 is a fine road. Nothing scary about that run at all.

I did it one winter when they closed 70, back in the paper logs days, it was snowing like the devils, no chain signs so up I went. After getting past the town there was no place to pull over to put chains on safely so I eased it on up. I live in them hills so I am a bit crazy, but I did make my delivery on time.

Weather could make it dangerous, but that can be said about any road.

@pmdriver you say your from that neck of the woods? What's it like north of 70? While I've been on all or most of the truck routes south of 70 I haven't been on that region between 70 and 80 west of 25.

Really not many roads that are doable by trucks, US 40 , mostly two laner and a couple of passes, Berthod and Rabbit ears, taking you out to Herber City in Utah where 80 is close, then 14 over Cameroon which will hook onto 40, next up is 80 across Wy. The little 2 laner past my house does not allow trucks, it goes thru the national park and the people in cars are scared to death so they drive in the middle of the road. Those smaller roads if legal are not bad if you are prepared. I remember before 70 was slapped in, Hwy 6 was a challenge.
