With all of the panic buying that's going on, I would say that any driver dispatched to, or under a load of medical supplies, pharmaceuticals, sundries, or groceries including produce is pretty much exempt to normal H.O.S. rules. I think the stipulations are just common sense driving... If you are tired, pull over and rest, but if you can get the load delivered safe, do so, even if the computer tells you that you are tired...

Snowlauncher; I would have to agree with you. This is much broader declaration than natural disaster exemptions. It does say for for emergency restocking....Talk about vague. I'm hauling potatoes out of ND Monday. Non processed so an argument could easily be made that potatoes are an essential part of supply chain and needs to get to store asap. Also, hauling produce back to ND from NC. can't really think of any non processed food that wouldn't fall under emergency restocking designations....If someone has other thoughts please share...Trying to read between lines here not suggesting I'm 100% correct. But, with regard being very vague it's easy to make am argument regarding fresh unprocessed foods. Also, would be good to have back and forth prior to discussing it with DOT officer....lol

Well this would have been fun with my last company.
Oregon paper (Kirkland brand) load to east coast. Then beer load back to Salem. Both can be considered essential -

Hate to bust your bubble, but this doesn't mean you can run coast to coast non-stop.
Most critical medical loads will be sent team only if over 600 miles. Shipper's will give driver's paperwork which will designate if the load qualifies as HOS Exempt. Been there, done that.
And it doesn't mean you can forget stopping at scales. If the scale master thinks you look tired, your OOS for 10. And the US Marshall ain't comin to help you.Super_Trucker, bryan21384, bzinger and 4 others Thank this.
