Yawn
Might replace point to point boxhaulers but I'd love to see a driverless truck take a 10 wide excavator from a dealership and drag it 50 km up a bushroad to a jobsite. Bonus points if it can put on 2 sets of triples and a steer chain!okiedokie, Doealex, Deere hunter and 5 others Thank this. -
10000 robot trucks piled up in the middle of a wyoming storm, road closed no deaths or injuries. Except the cars and SUV's trapped under the pile.
You do NOT want to be the registered owner of robot trucks, bust a traffic light 10x daily in DC... The Chinese have death of a thousand cuts we have death by ticket. Watch out that ticket paper is SHARP.Sirscrapntruckalot and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
Here we go again. These driverless truck companies are looking for investors.and laughing all the way to the bank. Even if and when they lose billions the executives will go home.fat and happy after scraping their $$ cream off the top.
Will it ever work? Maybe in a very limited capaicty...and still a driver. Yea they wont reveal how it will work if directed to pull over by a police officer, construction zones, bad weather, snow, winds of the west..etc. I bet 90% plus is pipe dreamsbzinger, Doealex, Western flyer and 1 other person Thank this. -
On a computer driven load, the hub seal runs dry on the right side drive tires because there is no one who loses their job for missing it in the pretrip.
A tire eventually catches fire which eventually catches the other three adjacent tires on fire as well because the computer is oblivious. The trailer eventually catches fire because there is no one to notice or put out this cluster-f’ed train wreck.
This 80,000 pound disaster in the making is now fully engulfed in flame and moving down the freeway at full speed because, in their limited wisdom, our self appointed superiors decided humans were unnecessary in this equation.Western flyer, rachi, x1Heavy and 1 other person Thank this. -
Probably a repeat. I regularly watch the CBS Sunday Morning show and they closed the studio in NY because they had 4 cases on staff. So other than a quickly taped intro they replayed an entire episode from last year. Meet the Depressed was broadcast out of D.C.
I don't know where most of 60 Minutes is produced but I'd wager they're gonna lean heavily on old stories.
Since it's the MSM, they'll probably tie in shortages at stores to a shortage of truck drivers. (How dare we think about staying home tomorrow when there's a .48 cpm load that has to go 200 miles, picks up Monday and delivers Tuesday. $48 a day is TOTALLY acceptable!!!)Doealex Thanks this. -
Just watched it and there are so many "what ifs?" Like what if...
1. A vehicle cuts in front and immediately slams on the brakes
2. A cop has someone pulled on the shoulder, or maybe not completely over on the shoulder
3. The painted lines of the roadway go to a coned construction zone with a new highway pattern
4. The truck needs to make a right turn and the far right lane is coned off for construction, will it know to swing far left first?
5. Will bugs, snow, dirt, cracks, in the sensors cause it to misinterpret traffic patterns
6. If an emergency vehicle is approaching or coming from behind will it know to mover over.
7. They said it would cut down cross country trips from 4 days to 2. WHO is going to sleep in the back while this thing is going down the road?
8. Is the true purpose of this to eliminate the driver or eliminate accidents? -

The Software Engineers that built it will blame the Salespeople for demanding it be released before it was ready.
The Salespeople will blame the Software Engineers because they have no other option.
The Liability Attorneys will blame (and sue) the Deep Pocket People because they have the most cash. Repeat ad infinitum.
The victims of the accidents this causes will be just as dead and injured and irrelevant to the people trying to profit off of this.Flat Earth Trucker and x1Heavy Thank this.
