So looking to go into chemical hauling with tanker . I have a few questions .
1. What is a good brand trailer and what specs should I be looking for ?
2. what’s type of insurances most I Cary . Meaning ( cargo ... liability ... ect )
3. what are some good places to get loads via load boards or companies that broker to owner operators?
4. just some positive insight on pulling tanker / advice for a newbie getting into tanker hauling ...
Thanks !!

Most O/Os lease onto a company in the chemical tank world. Not to say it cant be done. But trailer needed for one load may not work for the next. Like one needs and belly dump and the next a rear unload. Although some extra piping can take care of that. Or nest load can't use a trailer that had the product you last hauled in it. Not to mention the hours used always waiting at the tank wash.

You don’t want to buy a chemical tank...... unless you have a steady customer already lined up.
Try pricing 5 million dollars in liability insurance as a new owner operator......
As was already said Lease to someone to get started.... and go from there.Casimir66, Derailed, 18 wheels of fury and 1 other person Thank this. -

Where you are located will be the biggest factor in what you do.

you really don't need a tanker unless you have a company or dedicated customer but my company does let you bring your own tanker for a higher percentage of the load but from what I see not many have one

You don't want a tank...invest in the equipment for your tractor and sign on with a reputable carrier.
anything that may make the barrel get thin and you are done unless you ant to pony up for a re-barrel which takes a while.
25 years in chemicals, let the carrier buy the tanks, you need too many different things to really do it right. The only guys I ever saw successful with their own had a connection with the shipper, either a long term relationship or an inside connection sending it his way...Socal Xpress and KyleWhitneyTrucking Thank this. -
