We looked around and found a good deal on the 78mm s430sx. Dad got it with the standard 1.32 A/R housing, but plans to change it to the 1.45 A/R when he turns it up. We're thankful for the help from you and all the the other forum members.

We go the turbo and manifold installed. It looks great and gets more boost, but there are a few things that we noticed. The fuel mileage dropped a bit and it coughs some now when shifting in a hard pull. I guess it’s a lot more turbo/flow, so it’s hard for the 550hp file to keep up on the fueling? Now we’re getting a 700hp tune hoping that will solve it. Is there something else we need to look at or is this because the turbo/manifold is a bit much on it?

That turbo flows lots air. You need to drive it a bit differently now. When you make a shift in a hard pull you need to ease off the throttle a little slower so you don't surge the turbo. That chuff or bark you hear is boost going backwards towards the air cleaners. Keep doing that and you will damage the turbo.

You might want to drive it a bit higher in the rpm now also . Some guys actually get better mpg if you don't lug the engine. Keeps the turbo in the efficiency range. Yes a better file with more fuel will match that turbo better also.

That makes complete sense when you think about it. You'd think the other way around, but I can see where driving it like that would make it more efficient. You always hear that boost = bad mileage, so it kinda makes you want to keep it low when possible. We'll give that a shot though and let you know what our results are. Thanks again!

I also meant to ask you, if that 1.45 A/R housing would help with that any?

Yes. The 1.45 will help with that.

Your overall boost will drop a bit and you won't be driving that compressor so hard. The engine will breath a bit better also.

I gotcha. It also felt a little stronger on top and didn't cough with that smaller turbo. It was only making about 32 PSI boost before and now it's 38-40 consistently. It feels more responsive with this turbo being non wastegated though, but only in the low/middle.

Try the 1.45. I liked it better over the 1.32

Did yours cough much before the 1.45 A/R housing?

It started that when I went to the 78mm turbo. But i only ran the 1.32 housing for a week or so then jumped up to the 1.45. I felt the 1.32 was too restrictive and drove the compressor to hard on the top end.
