I didn’t read the linked article, but the vast majority of working musicians are hard working folks just like we are. I used to be one, I made about half my living for a decade playing in a beach town bar band (it was my main source of income May-September, with bus charters covering October-April). I have many friends who are full time musicians, and they are staring down the barrel at bankruptcy. A few are recording artists whose music you might be familiar with, but even they are totally forked, since the digital revolution destroyed the record industry. Their only real income is from live performance.

While this is very true, we didn't force them to tru to make a go at industry that is literally flooded with competition. The same things apply to countless career paths. Everything from stock brokers to museum curators to athletes to fishing guides. You got tens of thousands of hungry folks all competing for a very small number of job openings.
Fishing guides is a great example. In my little tiny suburb with a population of 60k, there are over 100 professional guides. And that doesn't include the ones in the 3 towns on the harbor less than 10 miles away.
If you choose to get into these type of industries, you should open your eyes to the fact that you will always struggle financially and will need to subsidize your income with part time jobs.

I agree with you, but it's the affluent people in entertainment that are the elitist.
I was born & raised just outside Nashville, in a small country town and knew lots of musicians & singers that are just like the ones you describe.
My father knew Stringbean Ackerman and Grandpa Jones and the Carter Family.
Couple guys I was in high school with murdered Stringbean and his wife.
One guy I worked with in trucking played in Conway Twitty's band and also drove his bus. He was with him when he died. After that he had his cdl, started pulling reefers where I worked.
I knew lots of those guys at the time. One of them was Lee Greenwood's bus driver and fell asleep and crashed it.
Anyway, I left Tennessee, so don't know what's going on there now.

These people were actually making a living, paying taxes, raising kids. Every bit of music you listen to was made by musicians working their trade. An honorable trade. Without them, you get no music.

I have offered many times to help fund the 87% of Hollywood that promised to move to Canada if Trump won.

Most working musicians, most working actors, most working entertainers of any and every kind aren’t famous, or wealthy, or entitled. They’re playing in a bar down the street, or are acting in a local theater or in a commercial or in the role of “Security Guard #3” in a Lifetime Channel Christmas movie. They don’t deserve our scorn any more than the guy who drives a truck delivering tires to wholesalers does (I’ve been that guy, too).

You sure don’t have to send them your money (unless you love their work and want to support it), but don’t go scorning them. They’re every bit as honorable professionals as us truck drivers.
