Although I would not give that loudmouth of a dispatcher the satisfaction if he talked down to me like that.
In 45 years I've quit a few also including abandoning both truck and trailer in Jersey and taking the greydog home after getting my 200 advance. I knew my last check would not be coming.
Only then did they receive a call w my resignation and the location of their units. After I drove down to get my p/u from the yard they had stolen the wheels off of it from the company lot outside of the fence.
Silly people..I knew where the customers were and the trailers were dropped.
My revenge was extracted at a dollar rate approximately 100 to 1. Direct Transit got the short end of the stick on that deal.
And I think the statute of limitations limits my prosecution at this point.dunchues, JonJon78, Black_Yeshua and 1 other person Thank this. -

I've always been the mind of, I ride for the brand. I'll give 110% and go the extra mile when needed. But cheat, lie or deceive me, I'm gone; however, sometimes, one needs to suck it up and pull loads they don't like, go to places they don't like, take a pay cut they don't like. Most of us had to do it at some point. This is to be expected from time to time, just be upfront and honest about it. If it don't change find something better.
Right now, times got tough real quick, that's just the way it is. Sometimes the best choice is to just suck it up and keep going forward, tomorrow's a new day.
As for Dispatcher's, they never had the prestige (or arrogance) they have now, why years ago, it wouldn't be tolerated. They'd be taken out back to the wood shed.
Just my observations as an old-timer, I'll go away now....dunchues, Milr72, kemosabi49 and 5 others Thank this. -
I've been running local all week, but I get paid percentage so it ain't too terrible.
Once I get this load off, I'm taking the empty to Chicago, picking up a clean trailer, loading up and heading out for Albany NY.
I don't know if some other driver is doing my long runs, or if we haven't been getting any long runs. Oh well. At least I'm still rolling.
I have nothing to base this on, but I just have a feeling that our freight is gonna come to a screeching halt in a week or two, and I'd best grab what I can while there's something to grab.
Drive safe, all. Keep your hands clean, and away from your face.... -
To be paid 70 a day is not reasonable for anyone in any situation.
If that's "all we got" fine..but give me my cut.
We have all had to shag trlrs across town for squat and if your company or the company you lease to has done right by you it's probably not a problem but to take advantage of a newer driver cause they can is what gets me angry.
Alot of the younger generation of drivers can't afford to flip off the company and walk and won't, and the dispatch probably knows it.
In my day one hand washed the other.
If I shagged trailers I knew I was getting a long run for the effort cause the pay surely wasn't cutting it.kemosabi49, clausland and homeskillet Thank this. -
