Axles on fuel trucks

    What are the huge axle ends on the fuel trucks? They look to be about 8 to 10 inches in diameter.

    Maybe greased hubs?? We had those on truck and trailer setups when I ran fuel instead of oiled hubs. They were way better then oiled hubs.

    This things are huge. Their way bigger than regular grease axle hubs with the plugs. Ill try and find a pic. Ive seen them on Superior tank lines trucks out here in So Cal.

    Not enough picture to see.

    I don't see the need for huge (Relatively speaking) hubs holding enough grease or oil to stay cold or something else entirely. If I can discover why we have them...

    Oh you must be talking about the tire pressure monitoring and inflation system. I believe they call it the HALO system, it has a big plastic housing that sits on the end of the axles.

    As mentioned, it's a self-contained tire inflation system. It is its own pump, there are no external connections for air like the systems you see that have a hose from over the fender connected to a hub device.
