If Van or reefer was paying $10/mile I'd still be pulling my flatbed.
I'd blow my head off before I had to stand in line with a bunch of flip floppers and track panters at the food warehouse shipping office.
I actually like doing flatbed work, hated every single second of bumping docks, dont care what the current van freight is getting I'm not at all interested.
I read post here an there about better freight rates,WHERE??

Yeah, well wait until April when everyone has bought more toilet paper than their garage can hold. Bad days ahead, people.
There's an excellent article in Transport Topics that I can't link to with my phone.
Perhaps someone else might?amberfeldt and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
I'd rather bump a dock than be unemployed. I tell my kids that pride doesn't pay bills. My oldest daughter wanted to quit her first job at Taco Sloppo when they told her she had to clean the restrooms. Gotta start somewhere.

So what should an owner operator do? You can't control what might happen tomorrow, much less months down the road.
I haven't read anyone saying that good times and rock and roll some are experiencing right now are going to continue well into the future if things continue the way they are.
I'm pretty sure anyone with half a brain has already figured out that if the economy continues on it's current trajectory, things could get tough.
So what?...
Just keep putting one foot in front of the other, live below your means, stash away what you can.
If you can get get $5.00 a mile, thank God. If you're running for much less than that, which the majority of us are, thank God for that too.
But for goodness sake, lay the negativity down. We're all going to make it, one way or the other.PPDCT, Rideandrepair, homeskillet and 7 others Thank this. -
Last Saturday and Sunday the rates were better than today . I’m siting at home waiting for rates to get better . I’ll see how long I can hold. There are toooo many mfkrs that will haul ( reefer loads) for pennies!!!
The problem I see is that some drivers who were making .50 per mile and suddenly they buy a truck and become “ o/o” now they get $ 2:00 per mile and they think they are #### rich . They have not #### idea how much cost to maintain a trucking business.. those people screwed it up for everyone else and then they go bankrupt.Rideandrepair, gerardo1961, stillwurkin and 2 others Thank this. -
