Last time I checked, LA county released 600 I think. Ohio released a couple hundred, not sure which counties. https://www.washingtonpost.com/nati...1c2d84-6b8c-11ea-b313-df458622c2cc_story.html
Also, Pentagon confirms first case:

Crooks will stay busy reading the obituaries and know which homes to rob because they know what time the funerals are.

NYC just released 300. Other places are doing it also.
I'm thinking it's cause corona gets into the prison system you will have an issue. Hard to clean a prison to rid it of the virus I'd imagine. Not to mention liability issues, not that I'm a lawyer. Prisons get sued all the time I doubt they want to invite more. Just my thoughts.
All the ones I've read about being released are non-violent offenders.
Their also not really arresting people unless it's bad bad. Tickets if they can, otherwise off to jail you go.
Link to an article on the NYC one - Coronavirus: New York City to release 300 nonviolent inmates from Rikers Island

Rikers for example is about 5400 inmates and more gaurds, staff etc. ALL of them right now are facing the possibility of mass death= due to Covid19. The NY State decided to release 300 non violent etc.
Many Nations have emptied prisons. Rather than take on very expensive ICU Ventilated medical care for all of the thousands upon thousands of sick and dying prisoners. Most of which have preexisting issues. To be sent to prison is a perfect breeding ground for COVID19 to infect the hell out anyone arriving and staying long enough to catch it. They cram the sick in there with the healthy who do not stay healthy long.
I understand Arkansas is releasing a number. Thats ok. Its actually a good thing. Some things are way bigger and more serious than just time out int he corner. Particularly if such time out in the corner turns into a death sentance or some seriously expensive medical care required of the state to provide it to someone in custody.tarmadilo Thanks this. -
Failed legal system, failed policy makers, just failures of a rigged game all around every place you look.

I agree.
There was a time I could not be bothered to give anything for the prisoners. However as the enormity of the abuses by state and especially privately owned prisons and jails for profit systems etc become apparent I lean towards seeing what we can do to help them. Punishment is one thing but unconsitutional when you almost kill them in there due to absolute neglect, abuse and a litany of other willful complications against someone in there.Lowlite Thanks this. -
Are prisoners not tough enough for Corona?
x1Heavy Thanks this.
