Had an appointment in April to renew my CDL (which has to be done in person). Just tonight received an email alert that DMV has cancelled all appointments for the foreseeable future. They are going to set up some online things for Class C, but absolutely nothing for Class A. Seems like a total nightmare catch-22. I planned ahead but now when my license expires in May I believe I have to start all over with permit, road tests, etc. Anyone have any info on loopholes, backdoor tricks, or officials to bribe? I was so proud of myself last week for renewing my Med Cert by drinking huge amounts of beet juice and getting my BP down from 149 to 118 (that stuff works).

Its closed. So you go home. Rent a stack of movies and buy a few good things to eat. Get that nightmare out of your system, it will be some months before they open.

We are happy we got that Real id thing taken care of last year late and managed to stick that truck licensing etc. But the big stuff? forget it. It may be a month or 5 or even not until next year.

Economic losses? Go file unemployment, the Senate says you get 100% of your weekly benefit plus 600 dollars each week for 4 months.

@Moose1958 - aren't there waivers in place during this Coronavirus crisis?

No, the 60 days is for Class C and registration stuff only. Says right on the site, CDL must be renewed in person. Because as in the past, you have to take about 7 written tests (on computer console) depending on your endorsements.

There is a waiver from FMCSA. It's at FMCSA CDL Waiver-3.24.20 | FMCSA

    The relevant portion.
Extends until June 30, 2020 the maximum period of CDL validity by waiving 49 CFR 383.73(b)(9) and 383.73(d)(6) for CDLs due for renewal on or after March 1, 2020.

States, CDL holders, CLP holders, and interstate non-CDL CMV drivers are covered under this waiver without further action.

    Chinatown and Ralph4159 Thank this.

Whoah, that is great news. Had not even heard about that, thanks much!

Out of curiosity how did you know about that? Do they send out email alerts? I thought I was up to speed by checking all the California DMV bullshot alerts but didn't even consider FMCSA.

Either was told by my compliance lady at work (I have a med card expiring on 4/5) or I read it here. I know it was both, just don't remember the order.

    Ralph4159 Thanks this.

CA requires you RE-PASS all of your endorsements just to renew your CDL? If that's true why haven't you people already started a revolution? My state only requires you re-pass your HazMat test, uf you have it, to renew CDL.

That’s what I was thinking to! That state is bonkers.
