My neighbors small reefer LTL company just let 60 people go yesterday, 20 some of em drivers. Like i said hard times dont discriminate or give you advanced notice. Take what you can get while you can get it. One in the hand better than two in the bush and all that.

I haul refer. Started at .40 cents a mile. Only took 14 days home time during my first year and made $61,800. I had $3000 in bonuses in there though. At a year I was bumped up to 44 cents. No signing first year bonuses, but I’m on pace to make about $64,000 this year. And I’m taking a little more Hometime. Taking only 14 days my first year was kind of rough. I would stay out two months or so at a time.

Its actually been a rocksolid company with great pay and benefits.. I almost went to work for them but the schedule couldnt work for me. it delivers school lunches and sit down restaurant food supplies. Their customer base is being slaughtered by this BS and they are being proactive to keep the company alive. You cant just suddenly decide to become a long haul reefer operation when youve got a fleet of daycabs and pup trailers, with drivers who wont go otr and staff that dont know otr reefer markets. What they know has shrunk so they are shrinking. No one could have foreseen or planned for this.hallellujah, D.Tibbitt, beastr123 and 1 other person Thank this. -

Yeah if they’re basically a local company, that’s a tough position to be in right now. I don’t see where there’s basically almost any demand for local drivers right now. Especially those serving the food and beverage industry. I doubt any reefer companies are going to be laying off their drivers that are over the road right now. It could come in the future but I don’t see it for the next few months at least. The demand is through the roof
