I am a surviving cancer patient. My medical card expires tomorrow March 28. Although I qualify for the FMCSA waiver the safety director of my company told me and I quote I dont give a #### about the waiver either you go to the medical clinic and renew your physical or you dont drive.
Now I understand that the company has that legal right but they are asking someone who has a major underlying condition to go into a medical clinic at this time and its completely unnecessary. I even ask for a EXCEPTIONAL ACOMONDATION under the Americans with Disabilities act to absolutely no reply. I've been parked 24 hours now and will be until I take the physical. Wish I had options

Find an occupational clinic somewhere you can go. That way you have no more chance of getting sick than, for example, dealing with gate guards and office people to load/unload.

It sucks, but these companies are trying to cover themselves. I doubt the Dot is gonna cut a driver some slack at the weigh station. Company dont want to get burned. Ware a mask and gloves if you go get it.

Without knowing what the situation really is all I can say is go get the renewed physical. The company is right, if you don't renew you don't drive for them.

In fact, you risk your CDL being downgraded without a valid DOT medical.

I just did a random UA friday at a clinic. They came outside & asked me about Covid-19 symptoms before letting me in. You could be infected for up to a week without symptoms so the point of that escapes me
Why would you wait till your card expires to renew it when your not at home?
Stop being a drama queen & go get yourself a physical. Sorry you had cancer, but life goes on & to drive a vehicle over 10,000lbs you need med cert.

We are cancer survivors ourselves, going on 15 years as of June. Not doing that again. I don't care if it comes back, give hospice a call when I am through cleaning up the bucket list.

Does anyone know if there is a waiver in place for the covid-19 pandemic going on? I did some research and I read it had been extended to September but I wasn't sure. My med certificate expires this month on the 17th.

I just got mine renewed on my hometime a couple of weeks ago. As a CDL holder you’re responsible for making sure your documents (CDL & medical certificate) are current and up to date(FMCSA waiver or not) so you can drive a CMV. I’m lucky my employer made arrangements for me to get it done. Some employers won’t.
