GET THAT IN WRITING. OFFICIAL from your state citing the rule or law that implements the grace period.

If you ran into a tinpot who sees expiring date, mules his mind to write you and arrest for no licensing you are going to NEED that letter.

 

No. Insist on formal letter, old style with official state letterhead, title of manager or boss intoning that rule of 60 days grace in stone. Make a notarized copy with impressed seal. Take that with you. Leave original in safe at home.

Its a minor annoyance but there are places in the USA that has not upgraded to that fancy Email just yet.

 

I've seen new stories, so who knows if they are true, that the states with closed DMVs are automatically extending DL expiration dates. They don't expect you to break into a DMV office to do business. Your license is extended until offices re-open.

 

In my state your CDL and your HazMat expire at the same time UNLESS you pre-enroll to renew your HazMat. When you do that your HazMat will expire some number of days after that pre-enrollment which was about 1 month before my CDL expiration.

If you have HazMat and pre-enroll and decided to skip fingerprints and background, etc and drop HM endorsement your HazMat will expire early and so many days after it expires your CDL will expire because you have not converted it to a non-HazMat CDL.

The lesson to be learned, if your state is like mine, is don't pre-enroll super early, sign up for a "walk-in" appointment, so you will have plenty of time and then wait until the last minute. Your CDL could be suspended BEFORE it expires.

 

I'd just print out the email and carry it with your CDL.

 

I also have a letter from the FMCSA dated 3/24/20 saying any CDL and CLP not expired on march first are extended until June 30, 2020
