I parked my truck for 6 weeks and when I tried to restart it, it would not fire, I have fuel thru the system and gave it a small dose of ether in which it did fire and run for a few seconds but it would not pick up fuel for some reason and I can not sort out why it will not run. It was running just fine when I parked it. Could the ECM be causing the injectors not to fire? Any ideas.

Could be a cam or crank sensor those are common!

What is the best way to figure this out? Sort of new to this, it is at my house and trying to figure out how to get it up and running. Any suggestions?

If it’s hard it’s most likely not fuel.

When you turn the key to the on position do you get a check engine light? If it lights up and turns off your ecm is getting power. If it doesn't light up your ecm isn't powering up or your bulb could just be burned out I suppose.

Do you have a fuel pressure gauge?

I have a 2000 Pete with a 2WS motor probably exactly what you have when I turn the key on nothing lights up on the dash by low air light!
Fuel pressure gauge will not work until motor is running! You have a return line that comes off the back of the head goes to the secondary filter you can crack it open crank the truck over if fuel comes out then it’s not the fuel system.
every time I’ve had a problem it’s always been electrical! As far as the cam sensor and crank sensor they’re probably old replace them anyway unless you have a broken wire somewhere I would definitely look for that or a bad connection it’s 20 years old it just goes with the territory!

Fuel pressure gauge will show pressure if you have it when pumping hand primer or as engine is cranking over

Find the sensor near the air compressor and change it 1st, when its bad it wont throw a code and can drive you in to spending all kinds of$$ before finding its a simple sensor?
