Is it doing too much to ask a yard dog to pull a trailer for you

It's sad that we have to remind some people to be polite now days. I just try to remember that I don't know what's going on in their life or what happened 20 minutes ago, so I try to never take it personal. IMO, it never hurts to ask, I mean what are they gonna do say no?

When I pull for ups during crazy season.
Some places I go to is tight as it is and then add the crazy Impatient Sikhs and you have a #### show. So sometime it’ll be too tight of a spot that would take me a while to get in I politely ask the yard dogs. Last guy in Colorado I asked he got pretty butt hurt about it. Even tho it took him less than 2 minutes. Like come on man if it’s a big deal say no. Give me a reason to drop it anywhere lol.

No, it is not. I have asked yard dogs to pull a few trailers over the last few years. When I do, I generally offer a $10 bill for beer/soda money. Sometimes they take it, sometimes they don't, but I have never had a yard dog refuse to move a trailer for me. I have even had a trailer docked for me once in a really tight spot that a sleeper truck was not going to make work without a super trucker at the wheel.

If it is one specific facility you are having issues with, it is possible that the trailers are being dropped on a upslope, then put on a downslope after being loaded. That can cause a significant difference in kingpin plate height without moving the landing gear at all.

Also, air ride trailers, if the landing gear is cranked down before the air is disconnected, can lift the kingpin plate a bit.

The largest amount of the time that yard driver wants YOU GONE! They have a lot to do and going around you OR waiting while some student paces off a pivot point peeves them off. If you need help ask them nicely and get out of their way.

And there is a good reason they do this. Most of the time these tight places are in high volume areas like grocery warehouses and at night. As I said before, it's better and quicker for them to do it, then spend several minutes waiting for someone to get in. I had one at a warehouse just to honk his horn at me, motion for me to drop and get out of the way. These guys are moving high volumes and a road driver most times just gets in their way.

No. it is everywhere. Even at Swift terminals with empty trailers, and often the same make and model of truck dropped it.
