Given the huge mess our economy is heading for, what trucking companies are fixed to be casualties of this war on this invisible monster? Will any Megas like Swift or others shut their doors during this crisis? Are we likely to see mass driver layoffs across the country for the first time in decades? Or do you think most peoples jobs in trucking in general are secure?

I do know trucking is the first thing the demand increases for anytime the economy even starts to pick back up. and it will after the nose dive. But my thinking is there’s going to be a whole lot of trucking companies go under when we enter into a depression. And this will reach a depression not just a recession.

What do you all think? 10% of drivers lose their jobs? 20% ?

Right now the truckstops are full, the highways are full of trucks, everybody’s busy because we’re catching up to all the hoarding that took place. That period is about to end. When this virus is done running it’s course and they let people go back out, about 40% of Americans are going to have no job to go to. The reality of this is going to hit in about six months.

It will definitely be survival of the fittest. But we will have to wait and see how many people die before we worry about that.

Government expect 300,000. C.R.E. and Swift whole and others partially.

Companies that can survive with a twenty or thirty percent cut in revenue will be fine. They will cut the dead weight, drivers who are late.
In any downturn the people who can make changes win.
The concern I have is the social unrest that is on its way.

there would be way too much hearsay, and rumors going around. best to wait it out.

let's not forget, it won't necessarily be the trucking companies that go under but thier customer base first. i would not be surprised by a few mergers as well.

but it's all conjecture at this time.

as far as the highways being "full", that's nonsense, travel of all types is down as much as 70% in some states, like here in New England, which is a very busy north/south route with I-95.

Here's how much traffic congestion has decreased due to the coronavirus crisis

Yeah that’s something that really bothers me. I have a concealed carry permit and I’ve had it for years. But I’m not allowed to carry any kind of firearm on my truck. I absolutely assure you civil unrest is coming. Big time!!!

I said trucks. Not in general. There’s lots of trucks out there. I know because I run the same lanes and I know when the truckstops are typically full. The last two runs I made, typically I have until 6 PM in the evening before I need to worry about all the truckstops filling up. Yesterday? They were all full by 2 PM in the afternoon.

if and i say if many companies get rid of the dead wood employee's, the CDL schools will crank them out by the truck loads.

so in essence, more dead wood, soon to come.

as for any civil unrest, that can happen in "some major" cities. and if so, it's best we have our own "protection".

Italy alone (where my ancestors come from) has over 13,000 deaths so far...
